Liberals certainly tolerate religions, but I think you're getting at the implicit disdain liberals might feel towards what's merely tolerated. Religions can't easily perform their traditional social functions if they're treated like commodities on a shelf, as just some among many life options that are available in a multicultural society. This is the problem of relativism which liberalism entails.
