Just because someone sees a problem doesn't mean he has to see the solution. But I'm currently exploring one solution by assessing the life advice given in the Pixar movie "Soul." This popular advice is to live every minute of your life, not to waste opportunities especially on obsessions that disconnect you from the little wonders of everyday events. This life lesson is not so easy to apply, though, without the supernatural backdrop.
In any case, logically the solution is to somehow avoid being defrauded. That's easy enough in the case of religion: Don't expect rewards in the afterlife. And in the case of capitalism, the solution would have to be similar: Don't put all your hopes on retirement, unless you're financially well-off.
