Just a clarification: I'm not saying that qualia are sacred, according to the common meaning of that word. I'm saying that that common use is based on confusions and overextensions, and that the likely source of any sense of sacredness is the experience of self-awareness. So I'm not talking about the word's meaning, but about the origin of the sense that sacredness is fragile and that it's spoiled by too much attention (from outside the special space). After all, if outsiders could witness our inner life firsthand, we'd be dead objects, not conscious persons.
