I've written a lot about it. There was a deistic interim when humanism was formulated in theistic terms. But the implications of this ethos separated church and state, so that Western religions became private, neutered affairs.

And it's in the name: humanism isn't tribal because it seizes on the character of our species, and thus on the properties that distinguish our species from others. What are those properties? The ones that make for personhood since in practice we treat each other as something other than an animal.
