I've heard others make this point too, that Peterson's changed recently, becoming harsher and more unbound as a conservative. Possibly he always felt this way, but was just better at buttoning it up. Possibly, he's become more strident to stand out in the crowd as a alt-right pundit, to regain the trust of his audience, as Trumpism pushes half the country ever further rightward.
Maybe, then, it's a business decision or maybe he just got tired of hiding what he really thinks, tired of pretending he's more neutral than he really is. Or maybe his family's health problems made him more resentful of life in general.
I suspect we're looking at the eventual downfall of this guru pundit, and I doubt he'll go quietly into the night. It could be a spectacular fall from grace. We do tend to build up our idols only to tear them down.
