It's the "magic" of scientific discovery, which is why I promote pantheism, an enchanted view of nature. Also, on existentialist grounds, I think cultures and worldviews begin from something like a Kierkegaardian leap of faith. We're not logical or empirical all the way down to our core beliefs and instincts.
But that doesn't make all cultures and worldviews equally valid in moral or aesthetic terms. Some fictions or myths become stale and anachronistic. Others take on too much baggage to be spiritually or existentially useful.
