It's the difference between the philosopher's abstract absolute, and the folk's personal comforter deity. The idea of a wild source of all beings would be akin to that of an impersonal first cause or unmoved mover, a ground of being. That would apply to esoteric theism which is practically atheistic, whereas the exoteric conception of God is of a superhuman, which flatters our intuitions.
Also, if you're including all of God's attributes (wisdom, power, etc), you're already departing from the maudlin platitude in question. The issue isn't whether God is loving and also just, powerful, wise, and so on. No, the issue is whether God is just love.
