It's strange to think that historical conditions lay the groundwork for individuals to be born. We're born because our parents got together. It's sexual reproduction. It's largely accidental rather than historically determined. If anything, when a figure belongs all too obviously to a historical period, that's some evidence that the individual is made up or is oversimplified to fit the era.
Of course, we adapt to the available niches, so this is all quite ambiguous. Jesus's period may have called for a Jewish rebel, so Jesus may have steered himself in that direction. Or the niche may have been purely mythic or literary, as some Jews wanted to reassure themselves after the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE. So they told themselves that even if they couldn't defeat Rome militarily, they'd have a spiritual redemption via a hero like Jesus.
