It's not much of a surprise that liberalism tends to support godless secularism since liberalism is part of the modern ethos that's dictated mainly by the scientific revolution. And scientific methods are lethal to religious faith, especially to the kind that's long since been compromised by Orwellian politics and hypocrisy. The conservative impulse is to rally around even a tarnished tradition, rather than develop a new one.
