It's not exactly fellow-feeling with Trump I'm suggesting, since I stipulate he's an inhuman, alien creature. (I just wrote another article on the nature of Trumpism which I hope will clarify this.) But indeed, Trump is comparable to the more monstrous "great men" from history. We're the domesticated herd that's confined to its moral code, so we can't hope to empathize with such an outsider. Instead, we demonize the alien to defend our social order.
What I said in the letter is that we might spare some of our outrage towards natural world that produces monsters, and prefer to reflect on the apocalyptic revelations of Trump's evil, rather than reducing Trump to a straw man in our culture war.
