It's ironic because I think there's some wisdom in realizing that even our best truths are in some sense fictional (or they're models that simplify and therefore partially falsify). But the vulgar exploitation of that late-modern realization leads lazy folks to be content with whatever ideas are most flattering to them. This is narcissism being mistaken for an enlightened state of mind.
