It's connected mostly to confusion and incoherence that are used to buttress whatever opinion strikes at least Bard's fancy at the time. Many of the macho sentiments seem to me conservative (alt-right), as does the fallacious, sociobiological style of argument.

If by "flashy types" you're talking about Bard and his co-writer, they don't speak for the whole Burning Man movement. They're trying to build on it with their books and neologisms.
