It's an eerie sense I'm trying to get across, that what counts as mainstream culture is cultish from another perspective. All worldviews are cultish in so far as reality outstrips them, and the worldviews are hopelessly parochial. Enlightenment would be a way of not taking worldviews and cultures so seriously, such as by regarding them as having mainly aesthetic value as products of our imagination.
