It's a good question: Is the problem metaphysical or epistemological? Is the mystery inherent in Being or is it due to our cognitive limitations or agendas? I argue the latter scenario in another article on the endlessness of the scientific method, to which I linked in this article. But here I come back to the basic question of why there's something rather than nothing. I think reductive science is probably inadequate to answer that question, but there's no reliable method left to answer it. Philosophy, religion, and art are all mainly about telling stories, although philosophy is about trying to weave those stories in with science.
