It depends what you mean by "science." If you're talking about an idealized, textbook conception, that might be just as immune from criticism as the theory (as opposed to the practice) of Christianity. Science in theory might be great, and even the practice of science has certain clear advantages. But science ends up being institutionalized, just like organized religions, which connects scientific methods to academia, the government, capitalism, tribal or generational squabbles, and so on.

Either way, modern science is underpinned by the humanistic, progressive enterprise--unless you're talking about something more esoteric like theurgy, divination, mystical perception, or some kind of "proto-science."
