Is it just sad or can it also be amusing? There's a picture of me taken when I was a child. I was dressed up in my father's clothing which was far too large for me. I looked foolish, but this was more amusing than sad. It should be the same for the childishness of adult practices. It's just that we need a higher, philosophical perspective to appreciate this hyper-childishness.
