Instead of focusing on liberals and Marxists, you might contrast individualism and collectivism since I think that's what you're driving at. I view Marxism as mainly a critique of capitalism that's consistent with liberal humanism, and a more dubious Hegelian, teleological view of history.
Sure, these ideological terms are often used in different ways, and sometimes loosely or misleadingly. I've criticized the decadent, politically correct (faddish) kind of liberalism, known pejoratively now as a "woke" form of identity politics. There's also right-wing identity politics, such as Christian nationalism.
Anyway, I'm not a partisan liberal. Like Marx, I critique this modern culture and its institutions. The question for me is whether secular humanism (liberalism, individualism, and its progressive institutions) is even sustainable.
