Indeed, the Hindu idea of cosmic evolution is hardly absurd. Of course there are larger processes unfolding. Scientists aim to chart them (in cosmology, physics, geology, biology, and so on). But dealing with causes and effects isn't the same as positing values. Is being part of any old process automatically good or spiritual? Hinduism's value judgments aren't necessarily as justified as its proto-scientific cosmology.
