Indeed, psychopathy is quite an interesting topic. I've written about it a fair amount. And I think we're generally pretty inconsistent in our handling of these individuals. The problem is that there are also subcriminal psychopaths and we tend to celebrate their successes in politics and business. There are psychopathic tendencies in lots of people. Even our capacity for objectivity, for coldly detaching from our personal convictions, and for focusing on cold, hard, instrumental realities is of the essence of psychopathy. So we demonize some psychopaths and practically deify others. (Donald Trump is a startling example of a deified psychopath.)
Joseph Abraham's book, Kings, Conquerors, Psychopaths: From Alexander to Hitler to the Corporation, has some interesting things to say about this.
