Indeed, if we look at this pantheistically, the universe is evolving towards some end state, which means every event is a step in that direction. Yet the end state appears to be a horrific form of absolute extermination and nullity. Thus, all forms of natural order and being have existential nobility, not in being steps towards what the monstrous universe has in mind, as it were, but in so far as those forms are delays of the inevitable.
