Indeed. I see Canada as filtering American influences. The question is how much of American culture will Canadians accept. The populist frustration with neoliberal arrogance is happenning in lots of democracies. But here Canada seems influenced by Trumpism, just as Mulroney and Harper were put in to work well with the American conservatives, Reagan and Bush. Then again, that might be more Canadian pragmatism at work: we don't believe in those ideologies so much as we don't want Canada and the US to be like oil and water. We compromise to fit into North America.
