Indeed, but we must be wary of the scientistic perspective too, of the one that says religion is nonsensical because it fails according to scientific standards of clarity and progress. If religion has an artistic (poetic) aspect, it could be judged more in aesthetic and moral terms, which would have little to do with reason or science. The reason "God" has so many meanings is that the word is rich with historical associations, which makes God a powerful theme for the purpose of storytelling.

The problem is that a story (such as a myth) can become so powerful that we forget we're only suspending our disbelief in the act of enjoying it.
