Indeed, but it's interesting how optimists leap to looking for solutions, whereas pessimists and cynics maintain that the deep problems are unfixable.

My point in calling this an ancient cold war is that this problem might be part of our existential condition. There's no easy solution, short of mass enlightenment.

And it's no accident that only a minority in any period or place on Earth could reasonably be called philosophically or spiritually enlightened. What these elites learn, thanks to their intellectualism, is self-destructive and subversive. This profound knowledge often takes these intellectual elites out of the running for naive happiness and worldly success.
