In this article I'm not talking about anything so grand, but in truthfulness versus dishonesty. What's frustrating in popular culture and in our daily routines is our lack of authenticity, our being out-of-touch with who we know we really are. We have to deceive to get by, because that's the civilized norm. We play our roles and pretend to be something we're not and to be happier than we really are, and we scour social media for hints of simple, unvarnished honesty.

Knowledge condemns. Art redeems. I learned that as an artistic writer who did a doctorate in philosophy. We should try to see the dark comedy in all things.
