I'm talking about conservatism, not conservatives. There may be some intelligent people who call themselves "conservative," but that doesn't mean all their ideas are smart or sustainable.
As I point out in the article below, Scruton also said in an interview, "conservatism is more an instinct than an idea.” So that's consistent with my distinction at the end of this article.
