I'm sure the myth of the hero's journey can be universalized by psychologizing it in that way. But that would be a debasement that would compare to how the middle class imitates the aristocracy with lesser versions of high fashion and cuisine. The lifestyles of the two classes would still be worlds apart, but we can feel better about that if we can pretend that even lowly folks are "heroic" in some innocuous sense.
