I'm sure scientists and engineers can work with the humanities to build up this big picture view. But the sciences are typically value-neutral. They presuppose social values rather than deliberately setting out to create or to change them.

Modelling large systems is one thing, but speaking to the implications of how these systems work for what people care about, namely their intuitions, myths, dogmas, and treasures is another matter.
