I'm not sure what tribalism has to do with that connection, although nature's re-enchantment could return us to a nomadic mentality.

I've written about this dark, "cosmicist" take on naturalism elsewhere (some links below). It is indeed consistent with a critique of modernity, or with a nostalgic, Romantic mourning. But we shouldn't shoot the messenger. Scientific objectification tells it like it is, and what we find in nature is liable to be alienating to informed social mammals.

The question is whether the monstrousness of nature's apparent impersonality is our subjective projection, or it's real and revelatory.
