I'm not sure that's the central difference between those two philosophical schools of thought. Analytic philosophy is more scientistic, whereas the "Continental" kind seems more literary.

The emphasis on happiness in analytic philosophy would derive from ancient Greek philosophy. The Continental thinkers are more skeptical, deconstructive, and jaded, so they prefer to reinvent the wheel than to take traditions for granted.
