I'm not sure I say or imply that the ancients were more miserable than we are today. At least, that assumption isn't needed in my argument against Father Casey. I argue elsewhere that theism is inherently conservative in that it primes us to accept political oppression, by presenting God as a supreme dominator to whom we have to submit.

I have an article coming out soon that argues both religion and capitalism perpetrate the same fraud that runs out the clock so people don't realize they've been swindled.
