I'm not quite sure that summary checks out, though (if it's meant to be a summary). Power can be infantilizing too. I'm saying that late-modern consumers are infantilized largely because they're empowered and spoiled by corporations. Also, just look at Trump. He's empowered and he's a narcissistic baby. I suspect the aristocrats of the medieval world were often like that, spoiled and infantilized by their power over others and by their material privileges.

The kind of maturity I'm talking has little to do with power. On the contrary, existential maturity is humbling since it makes us alienated outsiders.
