I'm not defending Chauvin's character. He may be racist, but it's just as likely that he's one of those aggressive, hot-headed cops so often portrayed in action movies. He's the type that used to bully kids when he was young, and he's addicted to "heat" or action, always looking for an excuse to "blow off steam." He kicks ass and "gets the job done" even at the cost of often going too far. In the action movies, these cops are celebrated when played by Clint Eastwood or Mel Gibson, just as Chauvin was given some commendations for bravery. Do we want bookworms as our policemen? Or action heroes who aren't known for their subtlety?
