I'm not clear on the second half of your question. Are you saying it's no longer cool to speak of a counterculture because social rebellion went out with the 1960s or with Islamist terrorism, or something like that? There's always a counterculture unless the society is totalitarian. The alt-right movement is countercultural, as is Trumpism, although those movements are laughably misguided. There are also all kinds of countercultures (and cults and such) on the internet.
