I'm an atheist, as my many writings on religion attest.
The article is about how new atheism got politicized so that new atheists steered clear of the more fundamental problem of atheism, which isn't that of refuting theistic arguments; instead, the problem is to work out a viable, positive atheistic worldview that reckons with the "death" of God. New atheists were too busy trying to sell an inoffensive version of secularism to make atheism seem more attractive than it really is, so they made it seem as though there were no existential risks of being an atheist. Specifically, these atheists downplayed the "satanic," promethean, existentially rebellious aspect of godlessness and of modernity.
