If that's true, it would mean that the algorithms are biased and are pushing an agenda. The agenda, I think, is to push the most popular articles onto everyone, even onto those who have more elevated tastes. So even if you prefer not to read about self-help, as long as that's a popular topic on Medium, the algorithms might present it to you. The assumption seems to be, "Most other readers like it, so you should too." In other words, it's the fallacious appeal to popularity, in algorithmic form.
