If capitalism were coming to an end, I’d have expected Bernie Sanders and Warren to do better in the Democratic Party. Mind you, they’re too old to inspire much confidence in a culture that worships youth.

Still, right-wing reactionaries have captured public resentment against neoliberalism all around the world, because leftists are too effete to be competent in politics (politics being war by other means). It’s possible for the public energy to be siphoned by con artists and demagogues who have no intention of unrigging the economy. That’s obviously what Trump did.
