If a pack of yahoos (Hamas) can set back the modernization of medieval cultures, just by killing a bunch of innocent people (and forcing Israel to anger the Muslim world by avenging itself against Hamas terrorists who hide among civilians), how substantive could that progress have been?
Saudi Arabia is supposed to be modernizing, and its peace deal with Israel would help. Then again, Egypt made peace with Israel, and Egypt is still mostly dirt poor.
