I'd say the monster in question isn't part of what makes the world go around; it is the world that goes around. But there is a refuge, as I argue at least; the refuge is just the contents of our consciousness and the extensions of our bodies and minds (our artificial habitats, including language, culture, tools, machines, and civilization).
