I wrote a series here on the Jesus myth theory. I think, though, the issue isn't so much "proof," as you say, but probabilities. In ancient history, it's seldom if ever a matter of proof, like in mathematics. It's a matter of weighing explanations to make sense of the limited, often ambiguous evidence that's available.
