I wonder whether Rome's inclusivity was more pragmatic than Alexander the Great's ideological globalism. Was Rome open-minded because it cared more about infrastructure than divisive ideologies? What united Romans from different cultures seemed to be their token fealty to the empire, so Roman humanism would have amounted to imperialism, no?
