I was also intrigued by that book, and wrote a few articles on it. I think we agree on the conspiratorial aspect of civilization, but I may be more ambivalent about it since I see the sci-fi attraction of humanism and its potential to support transhumanism, the latter being a fitting response to our existential predicament.

My problem with egalitarian, nomadic societies is that they don't rebel against nature in Promethean fashion. They're not progressive in that sense. That strikes me as unenlightened, but maybe ignorance is bliss.
