I think you're talking more about understanding vs knowledge, rather than about rationality vs logic. To understand the objective facts, we assimilate them with subjective interpretations, cultural presuppositions and values, and so on. I call this "humanizing the inhuman wilderness."

I don't know if "rationality" should encompass that subjective aspect of understanding. According to common usage (the dictionary), "rational" has to do with reason, and reason is defined by logic and scientific methods. But that's only a semantic question.
