I think you're making my point for me. I agree that science fills out more of the picture than we're used to seeing in our everyday lifeworld. But indeed, no one can see everything. That's our fault, though, not nature's. The limitations are ours, and they're not going to undo the real connections between things. The pebble may indeed have sat in water for millions of years. Can we fathom that kind of deep time? If we viewed everything intuitively as being composed of materials that are as old as the universe, wouldn't we treat everything as holy? Wouldn't we be naturalistic saints? The lifeworld demotes us so we can focus on mundane matters, whereas the existential, cosmic perspective elevates us closer to nature's level.
