I think you're adding the social role or interpretation of qualia. My point was that "individual rendering or representation of reality" seems like a partial definition of "qualia." If the rendering is accessed only individually and privately, even if it's also interpreted culturally, that's just another way of talking about qualia.

There's what it feels like to have the private mental state, and then there's what the person does with the state and how she interprets it in her worldview. The latter is largely social, but the former is quintessentially private. Even someone who grew up in the wild or in a cave, with no exposure to society would have qualia, as would animals.

Qualia are part of perception. But there are degrees of understanding the objects and events out there that we think are causing these perceptions.
