I think we should take at least part of the blame for where we end up, and part of the credit for our successes. But luck and circumstances take their toll too. Some introverts become philosophers, others become sarcastic comedians or criminals. It depends a lot on the environment, the upbringing, and so on.
The fad is to seek to improve ourselves, to "hack" our identity like a computer hacker. But the older we get, the less that likely makes sense. Our personal and social identities solidify. Still, we should try to make the best of it.
And there are some benefits of being a cool (subcriminal) loser. You needn't waste time on vain enterprises like conspicuous consumption, and can focus on what matters in life. For me it's art (including writing) as a protest against absurdity.
