I think there's a solid historical explanation of that disinterest in "enlightenment." First of all, modernity changed the meaning of the word. The Enlightenment in Europe was a secular matter, and material progress became more important than inner development. On top of that, the more recent, postmodern condition makes for disenchantment with the modern myths that propped up the institutions that generated that material "progress." So there are all kinds of cynicism, apathy, and relativism around, including a loss of trust in authorities such as so-called priests, gurus, and philosophers. Everyone has their opinion and even their own facts, thanks to social media and the internet that infantilize us.
