I think the negativity of nihilism is directed more against traditional values and not so much against materialistic conceptions. So nihilism might fit well within consumerism. The reason we must keep buying things is that none of the products fully satisfies. None of them matters because their value is illusory, sustained as it is by deceitful advertising and by our gullibility and short-sightedness.
