I think that's specious when applied to Trump, though. Most US presidents have respected the office. Trump's the exception who doesn't. So it's unknown how much damage a rogue president could do to the country. Trump would be the ultimate useful idiot of Putin, a kind of Manchurian candidate--not because he's been brainwashed or because he's a knowing foreign agent, but because he's deeply un-American and mentally ill (narcissistic). Thus, with all the tremendous damage he's doing to the US, it's as though he were acting on behalf of the country's adversaries even though he's not. It's about the effects, not the intentions of his actions.
