I think that's quite right. Holland's account is simply too one-sided, which means that for whatever reason, he has an ax to grind. He tries to fit all of Western history in this framework, but in doing so, he has to loosen the frame until his thesis is no longer so interesting. His case becomes unfalsifiable because he asks Christianity to do too much, so he has to loosen his sense of Christianity.
