I think that's a most fitting reaction to have, and I have an upcoming series of articles that's meant to hammer home that point. Even monotheistic deities end up being mascots that reflect the cultures of their worshippers. As Xenophanes said long ago, if cattle could be religious, they'd worship gods that look like cattle.
